'Battle
& Banquet' began with an idea to create a sound and light show
at magical Usk Castle, to commemorate the Battle of Pwll Melyn in
1405. That idea then grew into a spectacular which included the
town of Usk as well as the Castle, though was still much more personal
than other such shows locally. |
| The
son et lumiere itself took place in the ruins of Usk Castle. The
size of the ruins dictated that only 350 people were able to book
for each of the four late-night performances on June 29 and 30, July
1 and 2, 2005.The show started as dusk fell about 10.15pm and lasted
approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. Everyone was seated on the grass
and was very close to the action, thereby really feeling a part of
the show, providing a completely different experience from larger
shows at Chepstow and Tintern. |
| The
Plantagenet Society, the
well known battle re-enactment group, re-created the Battle of Pwll
Melyn, with help from local fighters. They were at the Castle all
week and were delighted to talk to schools, groups and individuals
about medieval army life. |
| If
you're visiting the Castle, why not eat in Usk? Usk has a huge variety
of places to eat, ranging from cafes and pubs to gourmet restaurants. The
