Elizabeth
de Burgh was a formidable lady who owned a castle at Clare in Suffolk
as well as Usk Castle, which passed to her when Gilbert de Clare
was killed at Bannockburn in 1314. During her tenure, Usk Castle
became a more comfortable place to live, with the addition of a
new Solar and Chamber Towers.
There
is an astonishing record of the Christmas
Feast she gave in 1326. This is the 'Banquet' which features
in our son et lumiere production.
